There are two important points about this James Hetfield Ken Lawrence Explorer guitar.

The James Hetfield Ken Lawrence Explorer owner: James Hetfield

James is the rhythm guitarist, co-founder, main composer and lead singer of the heavy metal band Metallica. Metallica was established in Oct 1981, since then, Metallica has won nine Grammy Awards, and released nine studio albums, three live albums, four extended plays and 24 singles. In 2009, Hetfield was listed No. 8 in Joel McIver’s book The 100 Greatest Metal Guitarists and ranked No. 24 in the 100 Greatest Metal Vocalists after defeating Parader. James prefers Explorer guitar so much that he has used Explorer guitars form Gibson and ESP successively, and he has been the main endorser for ESP since 1980. James’ main customized guitar is the Explorer specially crafted by Ken Lawrence.

James Hetfield Ken Lawrence Explorer Guitar Maker: Ken Lawrence

Ken Lawrence Musical Instruments was established by Ken Lawrence in 1986 for guitar and bass customization business. Except being a luthier, Ken Lawrence is also a bassist, he started making guitar in Moonstone Guitars in 1981 and 5 years later he set up his personal company. Ken Lawrence mainly hand crafts guitars and basses, so the processing often takes him one whole year to complete an instrument, and the yearly processing number is 20 to 25, so the price is fairly expensive. And he also customizes guitars for James Hetfield and his bandmates from American band Metallica. What he made for James Hetfield is basically based on ESP explorer, but the headstock and fretboard inlays vary somehow.

Features of James Hetfield Ken Lawrence Explorer

Each guitar made by Lawrence is based on customers’ requirements. Lawrence refuse to use endangered wood, in particular, he advocates the use of hard wood from tropical rain froests as the material of the instruments, usually alder, swamp wood and mahogany for body use, but if customers have other requirements he also uses other wood. All necks are made from eastern hard maple, which is a great choice for fretboards of Grenadillo or Katalox and can also be customized with different finishes and basses with or without fretboards and different pickups.

The second one still adopts mahogany body, but the top is made of flocculent yellow sandalwood, Ken Lawrence headstock, Chechen wood for the cover of the back groove, Sun-Ray fretboard inlays.

What We Offer about This James Hetfield Ken Lawrence Explorer guitar

Over years many customers consulted the Ken Lawrence explorer guitar with us, maybe because it’s really rear, and the period to customize one is too long, or maybe the price is too high. Anyway, we then began to study and replicate this guitar. We even bought a used Ken Lawrence explorer with a high price, so we have all accurate specs and sizes of this guitar! The biggest problem to replicate this guitar lies at some special woods which we contact many wood suppliers and finally sourced some hard woods of tropical rain forest.

But we offer more choices on pickups selection, except the original EMG pickups which we also sourced for your requirements, Wilkinson pickups is what we strongly recommended because of its high quality and affordable price. It can save you much money!! The Wilkinson pickups with the same specs as EMG pickups are much cheaper than the latter!!

Since our products are produced with a small quantity, the price, compared to those custom made guitars, is more affordable, but at the same time, the inventory is limited, so if you really like this guitar, please seize the chance to contact us immediately.
