Fender Keith Richards Guitar Blueprint
Fender Keith Richards Guitar Player - Keith Richards
Keith Richards is a British musician, composer, one the founding member of the Rolling Stones. Rolling Stones magazine said that Richards has created rock’s greatest single body of riffs, and praised him to be the No.10 greatest guitarist. As the lead guitarist of the Rolling Stones, Keith Richards is famous for his addict to drugs and alcohol, and his riotous and erosive lifestyle, as well as his superb guitar skills. In his own words, he perfected fool’s arts. He is a pure rock guitarist, improving the straight forward rock and roll music created by Chuck Berry and turning up the volume. Keith Richards proved that rhythm guitar can be played like lead guitar, and he made the guitar charm deepened into the whole band thus the audiences concerned more about music rather than the guitar itself. Keith Richards therefore changed the impression to rock guitar among people. There is an English motto, a rolling stone gathers no moss, which means the constant movement will always maintain the vigor of life. While the Rolling Stone band, hot in the world from 1960s, confirmed this statement with their 40 years ceaseless efforts.
Two important Fender Keith Richards Guitars
The first one, 1953 Fender Fender Keith Richards Telecaster – Micawber (Keith’s main guitar)
This 53 Fender Keith Richards telecaster is called Micawber, which is the most commonly used guitar of Keith Richards and was restructured from a 1953 Fender Telecaster. Creamy body, black pickguard, which were strictly done by our luthiers. Micawber is said to be named after a figure Wilkins Micawber in Dickens’ novel David Copperfield, but the exact cause is unknown. Different from other Telecaster, Micawber had a dual-coil pickups in neck (Of course, our replicas also have dual-coil pickups mounted on the neck).
From the Exile On Main St. period, Keith Richards began to use this Fender Keith Richards guitar. When using this Fender Keith Richards guitar, Keith usually tuned in Open G (DGDGBD) and removed the 6th string ( we did not remove the 6th string, because not all guitar fans can accept that; moreover, it’s very simple for users to remove it by themselves). You can say that Keith’s unique guitar style is inextricably linked with this tuning method.
Obviously, this guitar is Keith Richards’ favored one, though he has other teles, Micawber had always been his preferred equipment in both his tourings and recordings. The following article described the modification and influence Keith took to this Fender Keith Richards guitar. One of Fender’s custom shop ever replicated 20 Micawber guitars, but later stopped for Keith’s intervention.
The tuners and bridge had been replaced. The bridge was replaced with brass bridge. On our Fender Keith Richards products we did the same replacement with brass bridge. The pickups in neck is Gibson PAF dual-coil pickups, the pickups in bridge is original Fender Keith Richards tele pickups. We also purchased Gibson and Fender pickups for our customers, but the default pickups included in our price lists is wilkinson pickups, which is more affordable, quality reliable and can save a lot of costs for you.

Fender Keith Richards Telecaster Sunburst - Sonny
This Fender Keith Richards edition, named Sonny by Keith, was a 1966 Fender telecaster. Johnny Starbuck said that it was called sonny because of its sunburst finish, in fact it should be called sunny but not. This Fender Keith Richards guitar was tuned to open G.
Ash body, maple neck, maple fretboard, 3-tone sunburst finish, clear texture on the body, single layer black pickguard, brass terminal board, removed 6th string (B, F#, B, D#, F#).
According to the above features, we strictly replicated this Fender Keith Richards guitar, Ash body, maple neck, maple fretboard, 3-tone sunburst finish, single layer black pickguard, brass terminal board. The only difference is probably that we did not remove the 6th string!! Similarly we also purchased Gibson and Fender pickups, but the default pickups in the price list is wilkinson pickups, which is more affordable, quality reliable and can save you a lot of money.
